In many records, there is confirmation data supplied for when the person was confirmed. This normally happens within a few days or weeks after a child is born and is often treated as an alternate birth date if an actual birth date is not available. In many cases, there is also a Baptism record which has the same date and approximately the same location. My question is: Should these baby confirmation and baptism records be treated as the same? Can the Baptism records be consolidated with the Confirmation information?
FamilySearch is already doing something similar by putting child baptism information into the Confirmation field if it is empty.
Note: For this discussion, we are ONLY talking about confirmation and baptism events that happen within the first 6 after birth.
In your opinion, what should we do with Baptisms?
- Combine? (treat as Confirmation, remove separate baptism entry)
- Keep separate? (like they are now)
- or something else?
